The V. Rev. C. P. Finn, S.J., rector of St. Thomas More University College, preached the occasional sermon. Fr. Finn drew attention to two or three points in the Gospel of the day. Christ, he said, was moved with pity for the multitude. His sympathy for the crowd showed His full humanity and, being God, His answer was on the grand scale. Four thousand were fed with a few loaves and fishes miraculously multiplied, but it was to be noted that Our Lord did not distribute His gifts; they were portioned out by the hands of His disciples. Hands are symbolic of loving care and bread is symbolic of life, whether bread for our natural life or Holy Bread for our supernatural life.

Newman Society Day Of Enquiry

One of two local candidates for the ordination to the priesthood next month has the unusual distinction of having his mother a nun. He is the Rev. Brian Rosser, M.S.C., formerly of Shepperton - road, Victoria Park who, with the Rev. Patrick Edmund Lefroy, M.S.C. (of the Carnarvon district) will be ordained as a Missionary of the Sacred Heart on July 26 in Melbourne. The Rev. B. Rosser is the son of Mrs. D. M. Rosser and the late Cedric Rosser. On the death of his father, his widowed mother entered the Sisters of Reparation, Victoria, Croydon, where she is known as Sister M. Dorothy. Educated by the Presentation Sisters at Wiluna and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition at Mary's Mount, Kalamunda, Rev. B. Rosser made his secondary studies at St. Louis school, Claremont. He enrolled at the Sacred Heart Apostolic School at Douglas Park, N.S.W., and in 1952 entered the novitiate. He was professed the following year. Rev. B. Rosser had the happiness of completing his priestly studies at Croyden, Victoria, in proximity to his mother.
