Bishops Call For Female Modesty

Exchange For Four boys will be admitted to St. Mary's Cathedral choir next week. Those accepted will receive scholarships into the Christian Brothers' College, St. Geo. Ter. Only those boys in fourth' grade this year and of above average intelligence will be considered. Auditions will be held on Monday evening, March 10, at 8 p.m., at the Christian Brothers' College.

The Bishops felt especially concerned regarding the decline in modesty of dress among young women, for it marked a serious departure from the older fashions which maintained the dignity of Christian womanhood without in the least detracting from its physical grace and charm. The Bishops considered it was their sacred duty to call attention to this departure from the observance of Christian modesty which Christ meant to be a rule of life for youth and of which He Himself spoke so feelingly on many occasions. The Bishops felt that the training of true womanhood was of the utmost importance to Church and nation alike and that it should begin in the home. They therefore decided to appeal to parents, and especially mothers, to carry on such training in the homes. This training would be continued in the schools where our teaching Sisterhoods would give suitable lessons on womanly virtue and would encourage the practice of it among theii pupils.
