"Return to God," Pope Tells World HOLY

VATICAN CITY.-His Holiness Pope Pius XII. told the world last Christmas that 1950 must be the year of a great return to God.
It must be the return of the agnostic, "satisfied with a foolish notion of the universe," the Pope said, of the atheist, who declares a "ridiculous war" against Christ; of the believer and the Catholic, "whose flesh makes them traitors to their rightful duties and forgetful of the real treasures." Of the last-named, the Holy Father said "they are wrong if they think they possess the Christian life and are releasing to God, unless sanctifying grace dwells habitually in their souls." The Holy Father strongly urged all dissidents to return to the Church, describing his appeal as that of a "Father who loves, toils, suffers, prays and hopes for the good and happiness of all children." He also declared that the Holy Year of 1950 must be doubly decisive-"decisive especially for the longed -for religious renewal of the modern world," and "decisive as well for the future of the Church." These "sentiments of Our heart" were revealed by the Holy Father in his annual Christmas message delivered from his throne in the presence of the Roman Cardinals. (Full report in next issue.)
