Commercialised Contraception Imperils National Life dozen. The retailer, if he takes advantage of the special quantity rates, buys them at the following rates: Package A, 48/8 per dozen; Package B, 42/9 per dozen. These he retails at A, 8/3 each, and B, 7/3 each. This means a profit of over two hun-

Australia faces ruin! How often has this solemn warning been given from our Catholic pulpits, and how often as a result, have we been sneered at as scare mongers and described as pessimists, ignorant of the true situation? At last the Government has been jolted out of its smug CanAnd what a jolt it must have received! berrish complacency. At last they have wakened up to the fact that if the population continues to decline the way it has done over the last few years, it will only be a matter of time, and not long at that, when Australia as a nation will cease to exist. Things must have moved, and moved fast, when the Commonwealth Statistician gently broke the news to them that Australia was a dying nation, for the next thing we hear was that Immigration Minister Calwell had packed his bags and was off on a door -knocking tour of the Embassies of Europe in the hope of obtaining fresh blood for the country which the Government in its supine policy had allowed to be drained dry. Well! even if we get these immigrants ,and that worthy gentleman is finding things a bit tougher than he expected, we will have only touched the surface of of a problem that lies much There are deeper than the Government has ever dreamed of. many problems that must be solved if Australia is to survive, but one of the most urgent is that of commercialised birth control.

Whilst this foul but lucrative racket is allowed to continue with the paternal blessing of the Government, we will continue to lose more citizens than Mr. Calwell with all his propaganda and promises can ever hope to obtain. Of its innate foulness there can be no question. It is a diabolical practice contrary to the ethics of Christian morality, and diametrically opposed to the law of Nature and of God. The moral issue at stake will probably fall on deaf ears of the representatives of a country which is fast becoming pagan, but even if they are not interested in the moral side of it, they should at least be interested in the National aspect of the

cer or butcher and demand the rigours of the law for a trifling overcharge of a penny or so on his goods, when they quietly sit back and allow these large rackets to continue and prosper. The sale of other forms or contraceptives is booming. At present in Perth you can take

sales tax, and sell them at one shilling each, This represents a clear profit of nearly two hundred per cent. This profit margin is lowered if the customer buys in bulk, but common experience amongst chemists is that the customer buys singly, rather than in quantity.

It would indeed be very interesting to see why the Prices Branch allows this infamous sacket to continue, and although we are not lawyers, we would Fite to know how they manage to get away with their catalogues and price lists detailing these articles. The Contraceptive Bill of 1939 prohibits the insertion in any newspaper, magazine, periodical, handbill, circular, programme, or other document of any statement intended or apparently intended to promote the sale or disposal of any contraceptive as such. These last two words (as such) left a loophole open for their description as articles of hygiene, etc., but the letterpress in the price list describing ortho-gynol specifically states that it is a "dependable form of contraceptive prescribed by physicians." Perhaps the Minister for Health or the Police Department will be able to enlighten us.
