The Ball commenced at 8.30 p.m., on the arrival of the ArchAfter the first dance, bishop. His Grace, accompanied by the Matron of Honour (Mrs. Doyle), the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, and the official party, proceeded to one end of the Ballroom, where the presentation of the debutantes was to take place. Then slowly from either side of the Ballroom two lines of young ladies entered to converge in the form of a "V for Victory" figure in the centre of the dance floor. The soldier partners came in similarly and took their places on either side of the "V" pattern. The girls were beautifully frock-
ed in white, and each carried
a
posy of pastel coloured flowers. After the presentation the eightyfour debutantes and their uniformed partners made a beautiful picture as they stood in a circle round the ballroom: The orinto the chestra then broke strains of a circular waltz as the young couples filled the floor.
Once again Perth witnessed the memorable sight of so great a number "coming out' in one The Ball went on function. until 1.30 a.m., the great crowd present enjoying a dainty supper at 11 p.m. in the hall beneath
