C.G.M. Wins Popular Hostess Competition
Members Raise £943 for Adopt -a-Digger Appeal Creditable Record of War Oort Activities PHENOMENAL GROWTH OF THE GIRLS' MOVEMENT The Catholic Girls' Movement, in a magnificent effort to assist the Citizens' Reception Council, have raised over £943 in three short weeks. The Competition, C.G.M. candidate in the "Adopt -a-Digger" Popular Hostess Miss Daphne Dudley, was an easy winner in the recent contest for which the On Monday evening last, at the Independance Day money was collected. Ball, the Lord Mayor, Dr. Meagher, announced the results of the contest, and the Lieut.-Governor, Sir James Mitchell, presented a golden token to Miss Dudley, and congratulated her and the Movement on their outstanding took part in the Appeal, the grand total Ten hostesses achievement. being £2,149. Canteen Service. Two groups of over 120 girls have been attending Canmonths for many teens and Buffets under the direction of the Citizens' Reception Council,
taking their turn with the other women's organisations who are voluntarily assisting in this work of caring for Servicemen on leave.
Red Cross E.S.C. The Movement has also organised a Red Cross Emergency Service Company, which has been officially regisSeveral new members are still tered. attending the St. John Ambulance Association, from which they will graduate into the Company now counting some thirty girls. C.W.O. Auxiliary. The whole Movement has been coopted by the Catholic Welfare Organisation as a Ladies' Auxiliary, and last
year was responsible for an appreciable increase in the annual C.W)0. membership drive. The girls assisted the hardpressed committee at the church doors on C.W.O. Sunday, and in some parishes more than doubled the previous year's membership total. At present they are preparing a Concert for C.W.O. funds, through which they hope to raise £100, and on Sunday, July 25 (C.W.O. Sunday), they will be assisting again at the church doors receiving annual membership renewal of parishioners.
Catholic Patriotic Ball, 1943. This year the Catholic Ball is being organised by the C.G.M., and proceeds will be devoted to the C.W.O. The date has been fixed for September 6, at the Embassy Ballroom, and His Grace the Archbishop will attend and receive the debutantes. Already fiftysix names have been received by the Secretary at the Chib Rooms, 65 St. George's Terrace, and since it may be found necessary to limit the number, any other girls wishing to make their debut at the Ball are asked to hand in their names as soon as possible.

"Peg o' My Heart" will be presented in aid of the C.W.O. on July 16, 17, 23, and 24. Members are doing what they can to dispose of 1,000 tickets for this performance. General Activities.
It is to be hoped that this fine record will be maintained, and C.G.M. arc to be congratulated
the on
these efforts, which are, incidentally, but one sphere of their activities, though admittedly an important one. This year the C.G.M. Basket Ball Association was launched with eighteen teams, and promises to develop into a big sporting body of Catholic girls. Social life is catered for by weekly dances and dancing classes, and monthly socials and card parties. There are classes in Dressmaking, Homecrafts and Shorthand.
