A grave warning against the menace of atheistic Communism is contained in a Pastoral Letter signed by the Archbishop of Sydney and the Bishops of the Province, and read in all Catholic churches of New South Wales on Sunday, May 20. Dearly Beloved Brethren in Christ: The Bishops of New South Wales at their recent annual meeting decided to address an appeal and a warning to the Catholics of the Province. Duty of Prayer. The Holy Father has again appealed to the whole Catholic world to pray for the needs of mankind and for a just and lasting peace, in particular requesting the prayers of Catholic children to the Immaculate Heart of Mary for these intentions. The Holy Ghost, Who specially directs the Catholic Church, has surely inspired His Holiness to make this great appeal. In a firm spirit of obedience let us obey. In these days of anxiety and suffering caused by the war, we confidently expect our people to strengthen their faith and to increase the fervour of their prayers. Let us not forget that we pray with many of our fellow Catholics, whose misfortunes are so great that they realise only too well that God is their only hope in a world of misery. Listen to the words of Pope Pius the Eleventh in his letter to the world entitled, "Commun"Atheistic Communism": ism is intrinsically wrong, and no one who would save Christian civilisation may collaborate with it in any undertaking whatsoever. Those who permit themselves to be deceived into lending their aid towards the triumph of Communism in their own country will be the first to fall victims of their error." These words give us the considered judgment of the Vicar of Christ upon earth. They were uttered by Pius XI. They have been reaffrmed by Pius XII. Founders of Communism Support
