Impressive funetiort at opening
N W CWO The opening of the new C.W.O. Depot for Allied Service men on Sunday last was a unique and memorable occasion. Holy Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. by His Grace the Archbishop, assisted by Very Rev. Father Haugh O.M.I., served by two members of the Australian Army and Navy and two from the American Army and Navy, respectively. The seats of the main aisle were filled with Allied Service men representative of all the forces. Well over 1,000 people filled the church. His Grace passed through a guard of honour of 30 officers of the Allied Armies and Navies on entering and leaving the Sanctuary. At the Consecration, an American military guard presented arms in the main transept. The music of the Mass was rendered by the children from St. Joseph's Convent. As His Grace left the Church for the Depot, the band of an U.S. regiment rendered elections. Following the sermon, preached by the Archbishop, the congregation stood to sing "Faith of Our Fathers.'' Rev. Father Breslin, O.M.I., R.A.N.V.R., acted as Master of Ceremonies.

Large numbers of Allied Service Men receive Holy Communion
After Mass, the men proceeded to the Depot, which was formerly the parish hall, but has been handed over to the C.W.O. for the duration of the war by Very Rev. Father T. Haugh, 0.111.1., as a recreational centre for Allied Ser-
vice men. Here a dainty breakfast was served by the Fremantle Ladies' Auxiliary of the C.W.O. During the breakfast the choir of St. Joseph's Convent presented some choral numbers. The stage had a nautical setting, and children from the Primary School were dressed by the Sisters to represent Uncle Sam, Brittania, Air Force, Navy, Army, Nursing Sisters, and Red Cross. These sang a song of welcome in honour of His Grace, "Advance, Australia Fair," "The Aussies and the Yanks Are Here" (a song composed by an American soldier in Australia), and "It's a Great Day for the
Irish,"
After breakfast, a series of photographs were taken of His Grace and the men, who gave three cheers for the Archbishop and for the Catholic Welfare Organisation. Another feature of the ceremony was the distribution by R.A.A.F. Cadets of prayer -books, rosaries, medals and other pious objects donated by the various Convents of the State. Although the Depot was only officially opened on Sunday, it has been in use with increasing popularity for the past ten weeks. Already over 2,000 meals have been served. These, together with all other services provided by the C.W.O., are absolutely free of charge. This is a cardinal point of policy with the C.W.O. The Depot has been completely renovated for the use of the Armed Forces. It contains a piano, billiard tables, and other indoor games; and writing and reading materials.
