Feminismassuch-women'sattempt toachieveeconomicandpoliticalequalitywithmen-wasamovementborn intheAnglo-Saxoncountries;andthat foraprecisereason(explainsamodernwriter).Itwasoneofthemany by-productsofPuritanphilosophy.It wasessentiallyamovementofreaction;firstandforemostaprotest againsttheintolerable.Thatsituationhas,however,improvedsincethe daysofthefirstFeminists;Puritan rulesofbehaviourhavelostgroundall overtheworldand,thoughitisstill impossibletoforeseeintowhatform theywillcrystallise,thestrait-jacket whichtheyimposedonsocietywillultimatelybecastoffaltogether.
