Either religion is true or it is false. If it is true, it is as true (and consequently as good) for men as for women. It it is false, it is no better for women than for men because falsehood is not good for anyone. Yes, certainly, "religion is a very good thing for women," but also and for the simla-reasons, it is good ;

Egg Salad
Six hard-boiled eggs, quarter of a gill of mayonnaise sauce, chopped Parsley, red chillies, salt and pepper, one gill and a half of cream, one lettuce, beetroot, capers, and one slice of toa-ted bread. Peel the eggs and cat them crosswise into slices. Whip the cream till stiff, then add to it the mayonnaise, and a teaWash spoonful of chopped parsley. and trim the lettuce. Place a round of toasted bread in a salad bowl, dress on this a layer of lettuce leaves, then a layer of mayonnaise, then a layer Of -lices of egg, and so on, until the eggs and lettuce are used up. Season each layer to taste. Pile up high, sprinkle over with chopped parsley. Garnish tastefully with slices of beetroot capers, and red chilli, and serve.
Our Mental Glasses
The proper study of mankind is man. It is a curious study. There is something ludicrous about it, too, at times. Take any room full of people, and if you are in an investigating mood, mentally just study the proceedings. Everybody looks at his neigtubour through spectacles, which he does
not use when investigating
himself. They are intensely magnifying. The crystal is very clear and its peculiar property is to detect flaws. It invariably discovers them. You may be sure your neighbour has his spectacles on. If you are inquisitive, ask him, confidentially for his opinion ; select any one of the company at' random, and you will be surprised to learn that none of his faults are put in the shade. We all have these mental glasses with the clear crystal, only used for inspecting our neighbour. Some years back there was a craze for blue glasses. They have gone out of fashion, that is the material ones. There are men* blue or dark glasses, used only when we inspect ourselves. With these we cannot study. Perhaps it is as well. ,
