The Pope was to have a question and answer session with about 800 youth in the “Agora” gathering; have some private reflection in the Holy House of Loreto in the morning and celebrate a Mass in the evening for roughly 200,000 youth. What the Pope got, however, was a startling but no doubt refreshing reminder of the faith of the world’s youth: over half a million young people showed up to hear him speak. And he didn’t let them down. Benedict XVI invited the half a million young people to go against the current in a world seduced by violence, despotism and “success at all costs.” He also told them he was looking forward to seeing them at World Youth Day in Sydney next year.
