New Mass prayers 'dignified' British Catholic paper reports widespread praise for 'joyful' new Mass translation

The New Order of Mass

The New Translation of the Nicene Creed 572 HOMILI

What is believed to be the new English translation of the Mass, which Bishops and liturgical experts have been working on in secret for more than half a decade, was published on the internet in late March and early April, according to a British Catholic newspaper - and hailed as a triumph. The leak was greeted with delight by Catholic commentators around the English-speaking world, who have spoken of its "reverence" and "dignity" The Catholic Herald and Standard reported in its April 20 edition. The paper was able to reveal the new text of the Credo, (see graphic, this page) the central statement of Christian and Catholic faith, but did not print other prayers covered by copyright. Most of the main prayers of the Mass, including the penitential rite, the Gloria, the Nicene Creed and four versions of the Eucharistic prayer, were contained in the leaked copy. They are expected to be approved by the Vatican and the new version of the Mass is predicted to arrive in English and Welsh parishes in early 2009, the paper reported. As expected, the translation of "Credo" as "We believe" has been scrapped. Congregations will revert to saying: "I believe in one God."

believe in one God, the Father almighty, I maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God, born of the Father, before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, (bow your head) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and he Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. And one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Want to know the 6 effective habits of priestly vocational recruiting? The Eucharist and Dads are among the key secrets, reports journalist Dioceses reporting successful rates of vocational recruitment have something in common, says the US Catholic weekly, the National Catholic Register. In a summary

of reporter Tim Drake's article "Vocations Surge" in a recent issue, the Register compiled a list of "six habits of highly effective dioceses." The first habit was putting the Eucharist at the centre of vocational work. In an editorial the newspaper explained: "Eucharistic adoration is especially effective

because it draws sharp attention to the great gift that makes the priesthood so extraordinary and so needed - we have the priesthood to thank for God's real presence in the Blessed Sacrament. "And the dynamic of silent Eucharistic adoration inevitably leads to the question, 'What do you want me to do, Lord?"
