Priests to teach Jesus to school students again

Clergy to have key, re Catholic primary and secondary schools are to be accountable to their Parish Priest for their religious activities, including the teaching of RE, Archbishop Barry Hickey announced this week. The Archbishop said that the new role for Parish Priests had been defined in agreements reached with the Catholic Education Office in accord with Part 4, No. 63 of the Bishops' Mandate Letter. That section states: "Within the Catholic school, the parish priest is responsible for ensuring that the Bishop's Religious Education Programme is followed, and for encouraging coordination between the school's and the parish's evangelisation activities." (The Bishops' Mandate Letter is the document under which the Bishops of WA create the Catholic Education Commission and the Catholic Education Office and authorise them to conduct Catholic education throughout the State.) The champs: The last few months have been Trinity College's most successful season, winning five titles and runner up in a sixth. They won the Alcock Shield (athletics), the Alcock Cup (Australian Rules football), PSA swimming, the Darlot Cup (cricket), the PSA basketball and, of course, the Head of the River (celebrated above at Trinity College), with the Challenge Cup for the 1st VIII race and the Hamer Cup for the being the strongest rowing school in the PSA.
