Looming LifeLink appeal aims high for WA's neediest The Archbishop's Christmas Appeal for LifeLink will be launched in every parish in the Archdiocese next weekend, November 16-1Z Parishioners will be handed a special letter from His Grace this weekend, November 9-10, in which he will inform them why this appeal is so important in the life of the Archdiocese. The Archbishop's letter this year will include a special family

prayer card. The Archbishop's Christmas Appeal for LifeLink raises funds for the welfare and social service organisations that work on behalf of the Church to assist West Australian families and individuals in need. More than 48,500 West Australian families and individuals each year will turn to a LifeLink agency for help. The agencies supported by LifeLink deliver a total of $19 million of aid and

support across a wide variety of areas of need, including help for the disabled and people affected by AIDS. All funds raised in the Archbishop's Christmas Appeal are spent "right here at home" on programs and services across WA. The target this year is a minimum of $350,000. Individuals, families and parishes have been asked for enthusiastic support for the appeal.

More than 100 parish priests and parish appeal representatives met at the Mercedes College last week for the Liturgical Launch of the appeal which provides an opportunity for those who are responsible for the appeal to join together in prayer and mutual support. They were given a briefing on the work being done and the target for the appeal and were formally commissioned by the Archbishop for the work they will

undertake in their parishes. Guest speaker at the function was Tony Pietropiccolo, Director of Centrecare and President of WACOSS. Centrecare is supported by Lifelink and provides a variety of counselling, and support services for people suffering from addiction and other problems. Centrecare recently extended their support and professional assistance to help victims and families of the Bali tragedy.
