Missionaries of Charity heading for Bentley •F

ur nuns from the Missionaries of Charity are due to arrive in Perth for the official opening of their new convent on October 15. The Missionaries of Charity have become world renowned because of the work of their founder, Mother Teresa, in Calcutta, India. The work of the order has spread around the world and it now includes nuns and priests. In Australia, they are already working in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin and Katherine, in the Northern TerritoIT. The four nuns coming to Perth will establish a new foundation in the Bent-

ley Parish, and a house has already been set aside for them to use as a convent. Perth Archbishop Barry Hickey said this week he is delighted that the sisters II are coming to Perth. "Their work among the poor and their witness to a life of prayer and poverty is recognised throughout the world." the Archbishop said. The four coming to Perth will be led by their Superior, Sister Eliezer. Sister Eliezer said this week the nature of their work would be assessed after examining needs after their arrival. They also were eager to meet the family of Bmther Steve, a Perth man who is about to be ordained into the order's

priesthood in Guatemala, in Central America. The four nuns corning to Perth include an Australian, an Indian, a Bangladeshi and a Filipino. All four have worked in various parts of Australia but they had been working in Sydney until their appointment it) Western Australia. At present it was planned for only four nuns to be assigned to Perth, but that would also be reviewed according to future needs, Sister Eliezer said. While their convent would be set up in the Bentley parish, their work would probably take them to other parts of the city and the state. Sister Eliezer said. - Neil Smith
