By Peter Rosengren More than 120 people turned out at St Anthony's Church in Wanneroo last Saturday morning to help a much-loved Perth cleric celebrate more than half a century of life as a priest. Fr John Chokolich, who arrived in Perth as a child migrant from Croatia. was celebrating his 60th anniversary of ordination. Among fellow priests who were present for the celebration were Archbishop Barry Hickey. retired Bishop Peter Quinn of Perth and Perth Auxiliary Bishop-elect Donald Spmxton. Someone who recently celebrated his own 50 years of priesthood, Fr Patrick Cunningham. was also present. In his homily Father Chokolich named his inspirations as his parents, his uncles who raised him when he came to Australia. priests of the archdiocese and the Mercy Sisters and Christian Brothers who educated him and prepared him for studies for the priesthood. Outside the entrance of the new St Anthony's Church hung a framed photograph taken in 1933. Patrick and Veronica celebrate 50 years of marriage On 5th January 2002, Patrick and Veronica Antonio of Thornlie attended the Saturday Vigil Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Thornlie, to celebrate their 50 years of marriage. Also joining them were their children, Marie-Therese, Steven, Benedict and some friends and relatives, They renewed their marriage commitment to each other and Fr Patrick Lim presented them with a papal blessing for the occasion. The following day, Sunday, 6 January, about 85 relatives and friends attended a garden party at Hawks Hill Valley, Kingsley, at the house of Patrick's sister, Shirley Whittle. Patrick and Veronica's children reproduced and cooked the nibbles and food that they had 50 years ago.
