The Vatican tends not to release final itineraries until close to the event, but it is anticipated that the pope will visit all Australian capitals. The likelihood of Perth receiving a visit from Pope John Paul in his anticipated visit to Australia next year was confirmed when WA Premier Mr Brian Burke and his wife met the pope in R ome on Monday. The Australian government, the combined bishops' conferences of Australia, New Zealand and Oceania have invited the pope to visit this region and Vatican, and Australian church and government officials are working on a program that could see the pope in Australia at the end of 1986.
