The shortage of priests is a factor affecting changes that will soon take place in suburban parishes including the creation of a new parish to serve the expanding northern suburbs. Following a consultation with the Council of Priests last Thursday Bishop Healy referred to the serious shortage of priests facing the archdiocese in the immediate years ahead, and urged priests to to be held at St Charles' support the day on May 5. God, Subiaco and Queen Elizatwth Centre, the Camillian Fathers will establish a community at Subiaco parish which includes charge of the Princes,s Marpret and King Edward Hospitals. They will continue to serve Shenton Park parish. To the north of Perth ests have been invited to apply for a new parish to be opened in the (kcan Reef arca. With Ocean Reed Drive as its southern boundary, the new parish •i include the rapidly expanding suburbs of Heathridge and Ocean Reef and most of the other development in the greater Joondalup area. Plans are already under way for the opening next year of a Catholic secondary college at the coii rner of Marmion and tio(iges Avenues. Other northern corridor developments include an eventual parish including a two stream parish primary school at the corner of Wooch-ale Avenue and Duffy Terrace serving also thc Kingsley area. For the present. Catholic education officials believe the need for Catholic: schools is greater in the more northern sector of
Bishop Healy Ocean Reef than at Wcxxlvale. Also in the northern suburbs, the establishment of Girrawheen parish at the corner of Patrick Court and Girrawhecn Avenue where a church and presbytery and hall are under constructim means furthcr parish development will have to he plannVd for the new areas to the east. Mirrabooka parish also reports thc need for attention to the developments taking place to the east and north of St Gerard's church. South of the city on Murdoch Drive. a future parish sitV is provided on the property that already contains Corpus Christi secondary college and Yidarra primary school. Development is anticipated in the Janclakot area and a provisional paristi and school site has been pur chased there Thornlie parish already tuus a new site for which , church and two stream prim ary school are being planned.
