It's a far cry from the "baby blues" we all hear about. Postnatal depression is more distressing, deeper, and longer lasting than a fit of the blues. It can last from weeks to years. It can destroy marriages, cripple women and in the most tragic of cases, bring about the death of children.

Vatican sees -1 Australia as world ranking The Holy See sees Australia as a very important middlerange power, as an important country in the Far East and Pacific basin and as the country bridging East and West. This was said by the Australian ambassador to the Holy See, Sir Phillip Lawler, who paid a courtesy visit on Bishop Healy while in Perth last week. He also called on the Anglican archbishop. Sir Phillip said the Vatican was interested in the contribution Australia made to overseas aid to the Third World and also to its contribution in the field of refugees and migration. Australia's representation at the Holy See dates from 1973 and was established by the Whitlam government. NEW IDEAS
A new plan to- co-ordinate the welfare activity of all groups in Perth archdiocese will improve the Church's credibility, accountability and united approach to the government for assistance, says the Catholic Social Welfare Commission. "Government funding is becoming more difficult to receive each year and more and more services are asking for the less and less funds being made available," said Mr Tony McAlinden. full time chairman of the commission. "If our services can come into line with government guidelines, funds will be more readily accessible." The commission intends to consult with up to 100 different groups in the archdiocese offering different forms of welfare. The most significant areas were the handicapped, child care, family welfare and Aboriginal works, Mr McAlinden said.
Clashes in aid Some bodies were receiving aid from the Church when government money could be sought and this money could be re-directed to the more difficult areas the government would not consider. he said. "Some are doing the 'too hard to do' works that government stringent guidelines prevent them from doing.
