"Many other philosophies of education emphasise intellectual, emotional and social maturity. "But they fail to recognise and seek to promote spiritual maturity as well," he said at the annual teachers' Mass to open the scholastic year.
"A major reason for we Catholics seeking our own education system is we wish our young people to mature to a greater degree than would be possible under other education systems that address only some of their needs as persons. "It is a truism the success or failure of our Catholic education system depends principally on our teachers. "Ultimately, it is not buildings, administrative structures, members of school or f inance boards that are our principal resources. "All of these are secondary to our teachers.
