The new Eagles Nest Catholic Youth Centre was trying to supply prevention rather than a cure for today's crises, Archbishop Foley said at the official blessing of the expanded facilities last Sunday. -It is not always easy to convince people of the need for centres and movements for ordinary people because it is easier to see people in crisis.
"As a church we have been aware of those in society who through lack of opportunity. misfortune, or personal handicap have needed special help and we have sought to reach the people on the streets and the unemployed. "But we have to be particularly aware of the normal young person in a family who is seeking to create a good home. to study and to form themselves for life.

Saying that the time had come to aggressively prosecute one's point of view Mr Burke continued: "There is no worth or satisfaction in hiding your light under a bushell or a.s,suming the stature of a shrinking violet while enduring attacks on the things you believe. "The Church of our religion is not under attack hut Christianity itself is. The one constant thread is an attack on the system of values that all the churches would
attend to. "I see it every day in my job and while the Church has not been specifically under attack that is no longer a viable argument. "Because such an attack would lend strength to that church, what is much more worrying is that Christianity or morality is undergoing an attack or change that is not being accommodated, predicted or combatted. Burke announces grant
The time had come for an aggression to be developed not about religion but about the values of Christianity that were under attack, the Premier Mr Brian Burke said at the opening of Eagles Nest Catholic Youth Centre last Sunday.
"These people are being reached by our movements which are now on the increase. Archbishop Foley said he had been deeply moved by the enthusiasm, respect and faith of the 300 young people he met at the January Catholic Youth Conference. He also traced the history of the youth movements in the archdiocese and the decade during which Catholic youth activity appeared to dry up and disappear in the wake of the Cardin inspired youth movements established after the war. "In the late 1960s there was a general unrest and a great dislike of anything that smelt of organisation." he said.
