Shortly after he had ordained him deacon at St Keiran's church last week, Archbishop Foley is pictured handing the Reverend Patrick Lim the breads brought up at the offertory procession. Deacon Lim, originally from Singapore, is one of a family of seven. His mother Mrs Agatha Lim came to Perth for the ceremony. He came to Australia in 1980 and completed three years at St Paul's Seminary, Kensington before doing pastoral placement this year at Kalgoorlie and Osborne Park. He will return to St Paul's Seminary in 1984 to prepare for ordination to the priesthood for Perth archdiocese.
Two parishes, Applecross and Mirrabooka, have broken through to five figures in the 1984 Project Compassion total that shows to be up 11 percent on the 1983 total for the archdiocese of Perth. Applecross with a jump from $9150 last year to $12,500 for 1984 leads a list of 67 parishes that registered increases this year. Mirrabooka parish also rose from $9266 to $11,160 for the current year with the next highest totals coming from Bedford $7800, Nedlands $7784 and Kalgoorlie $7761.
