The urgent need for all Catholics and nonCatholics to uphold the moral standards protecting the Christian family in today's society was emphasised at the 62nd annual state conference of the Knights of the Southern cross held last weekend. The knights said they would continue to address issues of pornography, the banning of X and R rated video material, and any other matter eroding Christian standards o f society. They also pledged their on going support f or the Pregnancy Help movement. The conference at the Redemptorist Retreat House which was co-ordinated by deputy state chairman John Ryan with the assistance of state executive officer Reg Newman was notable for the number of younger members present. Group leaders Kevin Pownall, Paul Clune, Michael Blakiston, Ted Cunningham, Jim Smith and Grey Roughan led open discussions on how to make the order more appealing to younger members and on the • Cont page 6
