The Church in Perth had shown its commitment to migration work for 1984 in the funding of $20,000 improvements to the new Catholic Migration Centre in Victoria Square and the provision of a full time and part time salaried workers, Archbishop Foley said last Sunday. He was speaking at the blessing of new premises at the corner of Murray Street that were officially opened by the Minister for MultiCultural and Ethnic Affairs, Mr Ron Davies. Archbishop Foley said the blessing he bestowed on the centre indicated it was set aside for a religious purpose and to give inspiration to those who help integrate the work of the centre within the context of the Church's mission of Christ to the whole world.

As part of his blessing of the new Catholic Migration Centre in Victoria Square last Sunday Archbishop Foley blessed a representation of the crucifixion which he later hung in the foyer of the new building. The cross is a copy of the famous figure which spoke to Francis of Assisi and asked him to repair the church of St Damiano in Assisi. the new Catholic Migration Centre has been housed in a cottage at the corner of Victoria Square and Murray Street. Formerly it occupied smaller premises within Centrecare offices.
