In a dramatic move to bring his case to a head Columban Father Brian Gore has returned the privilege of house arrest to President Marcos and asked to be gaoled along with his six lay helpers who like the three priests have been waiting for a decision on their application for bail. In an emotional interview with me on 6KY on Sunday night, Father Gore called on Australian authorities to take positive action on his behalf. He roundly criticised the Philippine ambassador to Australia. What has caused Father Gore to be angry at events was the news on January 5 the judge of the bail for the eight months hearings, h as gone on extended leave. "We came out of gaol because we thought we could help our lay helpers to get out. "But after eight months it had had the opposite effect. "They have now become • hostages," Father Gore said. O n the day the j udge's departure was announced, the prosecutor went to t he bishop and offered him a deal : F ather Gore and O 'Brien would go h ome and the six laymen could come out on house arrest. and they do not know what to do with us. -We have asked to be returned to gaol and it seems they do not want to. " We have really put them in a spin," he said. Father Gore said the case involved politics at the highest level. "The whole population knows we are not guilty. "The military knows we are not guilty. "They are faced with the political decision of what to do with us. "They can liquidate us. "They can give us bail — they can deport us. "Which option they will choose we do not know," he said. If the Australian government is concerned, it is now time to do somethng, Father Brian Gore said in a live interview from the Philippines on Sunday night. "Idon't want any pussyfooting around. There has been a lot of wrist slapping in diplomatic circles which has achieved nothing," said Father Gore, commenting he had told his brother to get in touch with Mr Hayden, Minister for Foreign Affairs and possibly Mr Hawke the Prime Minister. "Australian government overtures to the Philippines government have been completely ignored. The protests from Austra-

"If the Australian government and people are s ympathetic, as they really are, let them do something which has guts about it," he said.
