Australian bishops delivered a special message to Pope John Paul II while making their required five year visit to the Holy See last week. Western Australians present were the Bishop of Bunbury, D r Peter Quinn making his first ad limina visit since taking over the diocese, and Bishop John Jobst, of Broome diocese. A rchbishop Foley, then Bishop of Geraldton, made his visit earlier this year. Archbishop Goody, because of his impending retirement w as not present on this occasion. Vatican on sex education:
SCHOOL DES VATICAN CITY (NC) — The Vatican plans to issue guidelines soon on sex education and on what it means to be a Catholic school. Educational Guidance on Human Love and The Religious Dimension of Education in the C athol ic School are among documents being prepared for C athol ic educators by the Vatican's Congregation for Catholic Education, said Cardinal William Baum, Prefect of that congregation, in a report to the World Synod of Bishops. A lthough he delivered the r eport in October, the full text was not made available until after the synod ended.

ROME — Pope John Paul has personally appealed to President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Yuri Andropoy to press for an end to the arms race. The pope said he had sent written appeals to the two leaders. He added the Church would continue to work for world peace. In the appeals to world leaders, the pope asked Mr Reagan and Mr Andropov "not to turn away from negotiation as the only w ay to recompose differences and the conflicts of interest and to put an end to the arms race, which keeps the whole of contemporary humanity in apprehension."
