In the past week since The Record has b een giving such s trong support to n eedy families at C hristmas for the Father Brian-Sunday Times Family Christmas Appeal, a large number of Catholic families have registered their intention of hosting or adopting a family around the Christmas period. "Christmas in Our Street and Caring for a Neighbour," the theme of the appeal, has been very widely accepted by the parishes in the metropolitan area.
If you would like to register your street as a Street of Caring at Christmas, then approach your neighbours and perhaps arrange for a get-together of all the people in the street about a before w eek Christmas. A t the same time, many families have indicated that they will take another family into their home on Christmas Day. A number of our Catholic school children have organised small appeals for gifts and Christmas food, and these will be pres-
ented at special Masses to mark the end of the year in some parishes. The priority for the appeal is Christmas f ood and food hampers, new toys and new clothing, so that, when planning Christmas shopping, just by buying one or t wo extra Christmas items you would help families. Boost A big boost to the appeal was given this w eek when the Western Farmer newspaper took on the role of calling on the farmers of Western Australia to support the appeal. The farming community have always been extremely generous to the appeal and they will add inv aluable support this year.
Three of Perth's best known media personalities, Libby Stone ( ABC), Lionel Yorke (6PM) and Howard Sattler (6KY) are all lending valuable time and effort to make sure that no family goes without. Perhaps you know of some family who may be in need this Christmas and by just dropping a line to Father Brian's Family Christmas Appeal, PO Box 9, Tuart Hill, then in a very quiet and unassuming way, that family would be cared for. The target this year is to have enough food, toys and clothing to care for about 10,000 needy families. It will be a marvellous feeling on Christmas Day when we can all sit down to Christmas dinner knowing that no-one in Western A ustralia has been left out.
It is a mammoth task, but then Christmas and caring is what makes it such a beautiful celebration.
Obviously Mum was out of the house and he was minding little brother. Little brother has a small toy donkey and he offered it to the appeal. I said to him: "Do you think we could get the rest of the original cast together?" and the young lad quite quickly said: "I will try." So I suspect that in the near future, as one small contribution to our appeal. the Community Care team will b e visiting a little replay of Bethlehem in this boy's backyard and we are looking forward to it.

Bishop Chandu Ray. one of the world's best known evangelical leaders died in Singapore last month. He had served as National Secretary of the Bible Society in Pakistan, and Anglican Bishop of Karachi, prior to his decision to undertake world evangelistic outreach work, with a special emphasis in the Asia Pacific region, in 1968. Bishop Ray settled in Perth with his family some years ago and was in demand as a speaker at many meetings and conferences.
