The St Anthony's Wanneroo altar servers took over the sale of 'The Record' on March 1 this year. At that time, sales averaged about 25 a week. In four weeks, the average rose to 49. The past few weeks have seen this climb to 65. The servers made their first $100 profit on August 21. A party was held on September 17 to celebrate the milestone. A cheque was presented at this party to a representative of the St Vincent de Paul Society, Wanneroo, from the altar servers for 20 per cent of their profit, $20. Another $30 was used for camps for the altar servers. Quick results in sales increases of 'The Record' were realised when all doors before and after every Mass were covered every weekend. Additional advertising is printed in the parish newsletter and on the overhead announcements at the end of every Mass as well as priestly encouragement from the pulpit.

"Possibly, never in the history of the Church have there

"Perhaps it was his great knowledge of history, the depth of his learning, his prudence and his faith in the Church which enabled him to steer the ship so well during those difficult years .... "As a public figure he has represented us with diplomacy, dignity and bearing and given a great lustre to the Church .... "On contentious matters, and there have been many, he defined and defended the position of the Church. and w e gained strength and insight from his pastoral letters and his statements to the news media ....
