Last Saturday evening the soaring interior of the new St Kieran's became the parish church of Osborne Park after Archbishop Goody blessed the building and celebrated the first Mass. The old St Kieran 's which had served the community for nearly 70 years becomes the parish hall.

Pope John Paul said the Catholic Church. which is not a member of the World Council of Churches, was represented at the Vancouver meeting by 20 observers. "The Catholic Church. committed with decisiveness and in an irreversible way in the ecumenical movement. makes the search for unity one of its principal pastoral concerns," he said. "I therefore call on you here present. and call Catholics spread throughout the world, to pray for this assembly," the pope added. "Max' God bless its work and make it useful, according to His will, for the good cause of unity and peace among Christians and the entire human family." The WCC assembly is the first since 1975. when the international church group met in Nairobi. Kenya. The assembly has drawn some 900 delegates, representing 303 member churches. and about 1.000 other observers or visitors. Among those invited are members of the Jewish, Moslem. Hindu and Buddhist faiths and members of other Christian denominations.
