Festival day for priest V ATICAN CITY: St Maximilian Kolbe, the priest who volunteered in place of a condemned man in Auschwitz camp in 1941, is to be a saint on the universal calendar of the Church. His feast day will be August 14 the date of his death. The feast will be an obligatory memorial being displaced only by a Sunday or higher feast.

SOME CONCERN role of bishops w ill be substantial only when it includes reference to a bishop being in hierarchical communion with the head and members of the college of bishops and not merely a ministerial fellowship. On the third statement on authority in the Church the Australian bishops see as "substantial agreement as possible" and that questions on the gospel texts concerning St Peter, and on the theology of the pope's jurisdiction are no longer matters of division between the two Churches. The Australian bishops are concerned that in some matters Anglicans hold to a doctrine only if it is received by the faithful. They say this position is unacceptable to Catholics. •Cont Page 15

The series of brochures with the bishops' policy statements. The Catholic Bishops of Australia are to launch next week a massive campaign of education on C atholic teaching through a series of six leaflets to be made available in the churches between July 31 and November 20. The four page leaflets will be available at a nominal charge of 5 cents and are written as part of a series that will carry on into next year after the first campaign of six leaflets dur-
ing 1983 is assess-
ed. The plan to provide an Australia wide programme of education through leaflets was first s tudied by the bishops five years ago and the project has been revised several times until this year when six special topics were chosen. It is anticipated that the leaflets will r equire serious study and will be suited to discussions groups in par-
ishes and in Catholic organisations. In the first leaflet the bishops point out that it is their duty to be the principal t eachers in the Church because of their mandate from the apostles to go out and preach the Good News. They point out that s ince they are unable to meet each Catholic personally, they are offering each person a short instruction under the title Living The Gospel.
