ARCH13 SHOP G ES NOC The Archbishop of Perth, Sir Launcelot Goody, announced in St Mary's Cathedral during Mass last Sunday he has submitted his resignation to Pope John Paul II.

Announcement coincides with his birthday

The announcement during the Mass to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi, coincided with Sir La uncelot's 75th birthday. Archbishop Goody said he was following the canonical procedures, introduced after the Second Vatican Council, that require bishops and priests to submit their resignations no later than their 75th birthday. He said he anticipated remaining Archbishop of Perth for a f urther two or three months until the wide consultation required by canon law is completed. He then hoped to be granted the opportunity to publicly instal his successor and retire from public ministry and administration. -With some trepidation I rest my cause before God's supreme tribunal," he said. "I pray for his mercy and forgiveness for the inadequate and imperfect manner in which I have performed my ministry for the past 53 years.
