ALP proposal hits private school funding Pope condemns bombing
Pope John Paul ll condemned the Irish disco bombing and asked for an end "to the evil acts of fratricide."
A telegram sent by the Vatican Secretariat of State to Bishop Edward Daly, of Derry, in whose diocese the bombing took place, said: "The holy father expresses his profound sorrow at the loss of human lives and at the immense suffering caused by the explosion at Ballykelly. He renews his condemnation of violence and in the name of God appeals for a cessation to the evil acts of fratricide," the telegram said. "His holiness prays for those who have died and for the injured as well as for their families," it added. "He asks the merciful Lord to grant conversion to men and just and lasting peace to all the Irish people." —
