He said that he had spotted two persons bearing firearms and who fled in the direction of the presbytery. Father Gore, in an interview, denied that he was anywhere near the presbytery when the soldiers entered. He was sleeping in a room adjacent to a young married couple with a baby who usually lived in the house. The military tried to gain entry by saying that there was someone who was sick and needed help. When the young man opened the window slightly he saw a heavily-armed man who tried to force t he young man to go with them but he refused. The soldier then tried to gain entry by asking for water.
