People praised for ACR aid
Archbishop Goody has complimented the people of the archdiocese of Perth on the record $189,814 they have given to Project Compassion this year and the nearly $1 million they have contributed over the past eight years. Noting that the 1982 total is 28 per cent ( $54,059) higher than the 1981 total of $164,944, he said that the donations of the people were clearly progressing at a higher r ate than inflation trends.

R OME: Pope John Paul's visit to Poland for the August 26, 600th anniversary of Our Lady of Czestochowa will not take place now and may be postponed even to 1983.
He cited the totals for the past eight years: 1975, $54,059; 1976, $79,000; 1977. S86,134; 1978, $108,970; 1979, $107,067; 1980, $139,630; 1981, $164,944; 1982, $189,814. This total of $929,621 for the past eight years and the sum would be vastly greater if records were produced of the appeals going back to 17 years ago when Project Compassion was introduced. A rchbishop Goody said he was particularly impressed by the activities which parishes have organised to promote the awareness of the reality and causes of world poverty. He believed the most likely lasting result of the growing success of Project Compassion would be in those who contributed so generously who develop an increasing sense of responsibility and awareness of other people's needs.
