Veteran catechists Mrs Marie Giles, of Manning, and Mrs Barbara Bourhill, of Atta dale, who attended training sessions at Mercedes College over thirteen years ago were back there again this week comparing notes with trainees who have just started, Miss Judy McDermott, of Belmont, and Mrs A ngela Giannasi, of South Perth. 1.•1

Big upsurge in training The current training programme is not only going to help in teaching, it is going to strengthen the faith of the Church in Perth. This is the opinion of Sister Margaret O 'Sullivan who heads the team of Catholic Education Office staff who are coordinating the programmes being attended by over 450 people at four centres. "There is a dynamism, an openness they are bringing to it all," Sister Margaret said. "There is a tremendous burst of enthusiasm and new life coming up the straight for the renewal of their own faith and that of the Church." Sister Margaret said that for over 13 years there had been attendances of up to 200 at the annual catechist training sessions but the enrolment of nearly 500 people had vastly exceeded expectations. This year is the first time that attendance at the course has been made compulsory for those wishing to be accredited for entry into government schools to teach relieion.
