AUDIO LOOPS IN CHURCHES

Father Paul Pitzen OSM of Joondanna, WA chaplain for people with hearing disabilities, was chairman of the Adelaide meeting. "I am pleased to report that a

they may worship successfully," said Father Pitzen. Father Pitzen hopes that many churches in Australia would follow this lead in the International Year of the Disabled. The national association is also working toward the development of a set of uniform religious signs. A book issued by Father Brendan Harnett of South Australia will be used by a Queensland subcommittee to produce a religious signs dictionary.

The meeting also discussed the problem of teaching religion to deaf people, especially the communication of abstract concepts. People in the Church who do not have a hearing disability tend to play down such difficulties and its implications for so many people in the church. The West Australian Catholic Association For The Deaf hopes to survey the level of understanding of religious concepts by the average deaf person,

Light which shone in the darkness Fling wide the gates, open the ancient doors, and the great king will come in. Who is this great king? He is the LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, victorious in battle. Fling wide the gates, open the ancient doors, and the great king will come in. Who is this great king? The triumphant LORD — he is the great king! The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all. This was done by the LORD; what a wonderful sight it is! This is the day of the LORD'S victory; let us be happy, let us celebrate! Save us, LORD, save us! Give us success, 0 LORD! May God bless the one who comes in the name of the LORD! From the Temple of the LORD we bless you. The LORD is God; he has been good to us.
