Archbishop Goody met the chairman of the college council, Mr. Kevin SULLIVAN and the headmaster, Father Dayen DAY, S.J., in a visit to meet senior staff. The combined enrolment of the four communities (two at Loreto and two at St. Louis) has almost reached the projected figure of 1,200, there being 588 boys and 564 girls with some enrolments yet to be completed. The balance of boys and girls is relatively even through all years, one to 12, with boys showing a slight preponderance in years five, six, eight and eleven.

The congregation also raised a strong question whether Catholics who are divorced and illegitimately remarried can receive Communion after general absolution without private confession, although this was reportedly done by some in the Tennessee rites. The rites in the Memphis diocese, conducted during Advent, were publicised beforehand as an effort to draw inactive Catholics back into full communion with the Church.

The Penance rite was followed by Mass and Communion. The first rite, in Memphis, attracted 11,500 people, and the second one, in Jackson, drew 2,000. The two rites also attracted national television and Press coverage, including front-page headlines in most Catholic papers.
