It may be the hazard of a weekly newspaper, but it is scant consolation to refer only now to the knighthood of Archbishop Goody which appeared in the media on Friday, December 30, the day on which our last edition was being made available generally. The embargo on the news was mienight December 29; we believe we could have observed this t embargo deadline had we been requested to do so, but we were not approached. The news was distributed to the A.B.C.; information was given in advance to the morning Press, not to the weekend Press and not to ourselves even up to this printing. So far our inquiries in official quarters have produced sympathy but no reassuring reason why the news channels in W.A. are now presumed to be so selectively few. It raises questions for the future of newspapers/ such as our own which claim to offer alternative* avenues for news; the picture takes on an even worse hue as advertisers flee from our pages to join the so-called pastures of the monopoly Press. t Those who value such an alternative Press, t therefore, had on our last front page an extensive t summary of the Pope's Peace Message among many other items in the paper. Those who feel that a religious paper is superfluous to their modern consumer needs saw no t reference to the Pope's message in any other newspaper and heard a fleeting reference to the subject on the A.B.C. — THE EDITOR.
