Belmont parish last Sunday celebrated t he diamond jubi lee of its church's opening with more than mere social entertainment. The parishioners took the initiative of embarking on a project to house 40 aged people on the land at the back of the church in a hostel to be provided by Commonwealth Government funds. • Pictured above is the Parish priest at Belmont, Father V. McCabe, S.M., (left) watching the Archbishop blessing and incensing the commemorative plaque that will be fixed to the hostel when it has been built The Belmont project is one of two currently being planned by parishes, the other being at Joondana These two projects have been initiated under the aegis of the Catholic Committee For Homes For the Aged, through which some 700 beds have been offered to parishes or other Catholic bodies which are prepared to give community support to the running of the hostels
