Rome speaks: warning on "errors"

ROME. — In a strongly-worded document, Rome's Congregation for the Doctrine has warned against several current errors about the nature of the Church, infallibility and the priesthood.

• Trinity College students, from left, Phillip Edmiston, Kieran Dolin and Chris KowaId, all of Applecross, study printed material at the new Career Reference Centre in Perth, while in the background, Pat Lovatt ( left) and Frances McLaughlin, of Mercedes College, occupy the booth of an audio-visual projection machine.

Career reference centre Opens in Perth Trinity and Mercedes Colleges students were among the first visitors to inspect the new career reference centre in Perth, that was opened on Wednesday. The centre is an innovation in the youth programme of the Commonwealth Employment Service in providing an exploration centre for young people interested in professional and subprofessional services.

The centre is situated in Wapet House, 12-14 St. George's Terrace, on the ground floor and is set up as a self-service facility where students can browse and puruse their own interest in career information.

In addition to copious literature, the centre has four booths set up with casette equipment for sound and visual description of careers. The centre will be open each day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the carpeting, easy chairs and bright decor are expected to attract the student to take their time at informing themselves. The officer at the new centre, Mr. Ben Driscoll, said that whereas the personal interviews that were available to students already through the Commonwealth Employment Service might average out at about 15 minutes each it had been found in other career centres that students were spending up to an average of three hours on a visit to a centre to do their own research on careers. He explained that although there was theoretically a very wide choice of careers facing a youth, the field eventually had to be narrowed to the youth's interests and capabilities.

Another emphasis at the centre was on assessing the career potential as it affected the local conditions in W.A., even though for a number of professions training in other States would be required. The centre was opened on Wednesday by Mr. Adrian Bennett, M.H.R. for Canning. Among the guests were Brother L. B. Hassam, of Aquinas College, reprethe Independent senting Schools' Association and Mr. M. McGovern, representing the Parents and Fri ends' Federation.
