THE SITUATION in the Australian Church 'looks good.' This is the view of Bishop G. Mongeau, 0.M.I., of Cotobata, the Philippines, who is in Perth for a Retreat at the Franciscan Monastery. C anadian-born Bishop Mongeau, who has been in Australia for more than four weeks, said a seemed Australia prosperous country, and he was aware of some r adical elements. He said he had a wonderful reaction in his meeting with Australian priests. The purpose of his visit was to preach to Oblates here at various Retreats. He conducted a one-week Retreat in Brisbane, a two-week Retreat in Sorrento, Melbourne, and a week-long one here. LIBERAL Bishop Mongeau, who leaves for Melbourne on Sunday, then home to Manila on Wednesday, said: "'The Church situation here looks good. The priests here don't seem to be disturbed by the more liberal elements." He said the Australian Church did not seem to have the problems that had befallen parts of Church — such as the

exodus of priests and nuns and the like. As far as he could see, there seemed to be more solidarity in the Religious fraternity. Of the Philippines the has been there since 1939), Bishop Mongeau said the political situation was delicate. DELICATE "As you know there was some manifestation of opposition when grenades were thrown at some candidates in election rallies."
