NEWMIRRABOOKA CHURCH OPENED Bishop sees his old parish grow up
I t was a day of double joy for Bishop Peter Quinn, Auxiliary Bishop of Perth, when he blessed and opened Mirrabooka's new St. Gerard's Church last Sunday. He had seen a dream come true and a parish come of age. It was only five years before that he had been appointed parish priest of Mirrabooka where, until early last year, he offered Mass every Sunday in a makeshift Chapel of partitioned classrooms at St. Gerard's School. When he walked gracefully to the ambo, one could detect a "glad to be back" smile. And there, before a large and familiar congregation, he spoke of old times.
E XPRESSION OF FAITH He said: "In five years. a lot has happened, I was privileged to hay...) worked with you. You were a source of inspiration to me, and deep bonds of friendship were established between us." He said the Church building was an external expression of the people's faith. It was the highlight of their ideals and concern for things spiritual. He thanked all those who were concerned with the building up of the parish, and the Church in particular, and added E veryone had a whale of a time — especially the kids. What with TV personalities Percy the Penguin and that they had shown a Trina, Lloyd Lawson, Jeff Newman and a host of others tremendous "desire to erect in their suburb who helped out with the stalls. something concrete to reThe target of $10,000 was reached, although no final mind them of God and figures are available as yet. to give to their lives a lasting and uplifting in Other prize winners were: spira t ion."
The wheel of fortune spins erratically . . . as this little chap has found out. He was among 7,000 people who flocked to the Redemptorist Monastery grounds last Sunday to enjoy themselves at the Fair. For some, luck was with them all the way — like Zel la and Chas (Ticket No. 499) and jockey F. Moore ( No. 388), who won the two B.O.A.C. World Tour prizes.

Campaign Funds Okay
Freedom From Hunger Campaign funds are completely in order, Australian FFHC president, Mrs. G. N. Frost, said last week. Referring to recent publicity concerning Campaign funds, she said: Australian "The Freedom From Hunger Campaign has caused extensive enquiries to be made into its affairs by its honorary auditors.
"The Campaign can now report that the National Committee itself, its auditors and solicitors, are fully satisfied that the funds of the Campaign are completely in order and that no donations whatsoever have been lost. "Furthermore, the Campaign is satisfied that there has been no negligence in the conduct of its affairs by the National Committee."
He was aware that there was a deep bond of attachment between the people of Mirrabooka and the Bishop, and he hoped the next five years would see the parish continue to grow from strength to strength.
