PERTH'S NEW A Assisted by three Archbishops, and eleven Bishops, His Grace, Most Rev. L. J. Goody, D.D., Ph.D., Archbishop of Perth, ordained Most Rev. Peter Quinn, D.D., D.C.L., S.T.L., Titular Bishop of Falcrone and Auxiliary Bishop of Perth at St. Mary's Cathedral, on Wednesday last.
The ceremony was replete with both liturgical and historical significance. The simplified rite of Ordination was ' used and the impact of the fourteen concelebrating Bishops ordaining and coopting the new Bishop into the ranks of the Hierarchy spelt out the wisdom of the Church in gearing itself to l iturgical renewal and an evermore meaningful presentation of its truths to the People of God. The Ordination of Bishop Quinn marks the coming of age of St. Charles Seminary, Guildford. He was one of the first seminarians together with his two assistants at the ordination, Rev. G. Crocetti, P.P., Lake Grace, and Rev. P. Cunningham, Act. Adm. Nedlands, w ho studied at the Archdiocesan Seminary.
The local historical links were further underlined by the presence of Archbishop J. R. Knox of Melbourne, and Bishop B. Gallagher of Port Pine, both of whom were born in Western Australia. To link the ordination more completely locally, the Bishop's insignia of office were made in Perth and represented gifts of both clergy and people to the new Auxiliary Bishop.
