PAUL, the Bishop, Servant of the Servants of God, addresses His venerable brother, Launcelot John Goody, formerly Bishop of Bunbury and now by these letters transferred to the Metropolitan See of Perth. He wishes him health and imparts to him the Apostolic Blessing. The most important task We have in this Apostolic Office of Governance over Christ's Holy Church, entrusted to Us by Divine C ommission, is to see to it with the most careful judgment that We appoint Bishops dedicated to the welfare of their people. More important yet is this task when it c oncerns a See of major importance. Because the See of Perth was vacant f ollowing the lamented death of Redmond Prendiville, dear to Our Memory, We have decided to appoint you to this See. We have c onsulted the Congregation for the Evang&isation of Peoples formerly and more commonly known as the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith. We have consulted too Domenico Enrici, Our venerable brother, T itular Archbishop of Ancusa, and Our A postolic Delegate for Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. All agreed that you would be the best choice for this position. T herefore exercising Our supreme authority We release you from the responsibility of r uling the Diocese of Bunbury, and We t ransfer you to the Archdiocese of Perth with all the privileges and rights, duties and

responsibilities proper to your new position as Metropolitan. We dispense you from the obligation of making the profession of Catholic Faith, and of pledging your loyalty to Us and Our Successors, anything to the contrary notwithstanding, because you have done these things before. This document is to be read to the Clergy and to the People in the Cathedral Church in Perth, at a Solemn Festival. We exhort our beloved Sons the Priests and People to receive you joyfully, to obey your orders willingly, and to aid your plans a nd undertakings, whether they be such as appeal to them as good and useful, or whether they be such as might be considered new undertakings because we know you for a prudent ruler. Y ou are called, dear Brother, to one of the higher Offices in the Church. Be industrious, w e beg you, as is your wont, even more so. With fatherly affection and skill plot the course for your faithful people away from the reefs and dangers of earthly life to the very harbour of Salvation. Sealed and dated in Rome from St. Peter's on the eighteenth of October, 1968, the Sixth Year of Our Papacy. Aloisius Cardinal Traglia, Chancellor of the Holy Roman Church. Francis Trinello, Regent. Joseph Rossi, Bishop of Palmyra, John Calleri—Prothonotaries Apostolic.
