They are Sister M. Veronica Bowler, who received the B.E.M. in the State List for her services to the poor, and Reverend Brother Michael Redmond, of Aquinas College, who was given the M.B.E. in the Commonwealth List for his services to youth and education. Sister Veronica was born in South Australia and joined the Daughters of Charity in 1949 after completing her education at the Dominican Convent, Cabra. After spending a number of years visiting the poor in Wooloomooloo, New South Wales, Sister was transferred to W.A. in 1956, and was a member of the community of Daughters of Charity which established a small home for the aged at Mt. Law' ey. Later Sister Veronica was one of a group of Sisters which established a soup kitchen in
Shenton Street, West Perth, and was also instrumental in establishing a night shelter for women in Aberdeen 'Street, West Perth. Born in Sydney and educated at Waverley College, New South Wales, Brother Redmond came to W.A. in 1916 and began teaching at St. Patrick's Boys' School, Wellington Street. Brother was then to teach at Christian Brothers' Colleges in Perth, Fremantle and at Aquinas. For the past 34 years he has been at Aquinas. Even today, at the age of 77, he still conducts classes in Latin and bookkeeping. Both Sister Veronica and Brother Redmond have received a host of congratulatory messages during the week and wish to thank sincerely all their well-wishers.
Sister Veronica Happily receives many congratulatory calls.
