THE PREMIER, MR. DAVID BRAND, OFFICIALLY OPENED SAFETY CAMPAIGN, 1965, ON MONDAY, AT SAFETY HOUSE, MOUNT LAWLEY. Th's year's campaign will be of three week's duration and will highlight the necessity for safety in all walks of life and by all folk, whether in the home, in industry, in or on water, AND ON THE ROADS. Special emphasis will be placed on road safety during the last week of the campaign from October 30 to November 7.

COST OF ACCIDENTS Last year nearly three thousand people died on Australian roads, while 75,000 were injured. The cost to the national economy has been estimated at £ 100 million. When the casualty rate soared last year, one person was killed every 31 hours, and one person injured every eight minutes. Of those killed, about 40 per cent were under 30 years of age, while nearly 60 per cent of those seriously injured were in the same age group.
