Freedom From Hunger erous voluntary effort can do much to assist projects of self-help in the undernourished countries, which can be the pattern for a hundredfold extension when the money is available. "The need is urgent—that is why this early effort on October 27 is planned. We are confident that you and your people will give your active support, out of love for our neighbour and out of love for our God, Whose will is that all men shall have life abundant. "Working together in this way will be evidence that we already have a basic unity in Our Lord Jesus Christ and will deepen our fellowship as we seek for the greater unity which is His will." Professor Underwood said that in parishes and circuits throughout the Stat e, priests and ministers had set up organising committees to plan the Hunger March together. "We a r e tremendously grateful to the churches for what they are planning to do," he said. "Their unity on this question is as inspiring as the unity of the 43 nations who have joined throughout the world to back this campaign. "We, in Western Australia, have committed ourselves to raise £65,000 towards an international programme to teach the hungry people of the world how they can produce the foods they need for a more abundant life. "We are hopeful that the State-wide Hunger March of the united churches will enable us to reach the target of our fund-raising drive.

Western Australia's nine major churches have combined in an unprecedented demonstration of unity to stage a state-wide drive for the Freedom From Hunger Campaign. Announcing t h e drive, Freedom From Hunger Campaign Chairman, Professor Eric Underwood, said it would be dramatised as a Hunger March, to be staged on Sunday, October 27. "This is a magnificent demonstration of compassion for the hungry people of the world," he said. "Church people will march from their Sunday morning; services and make lunchtime visits to homes in cities and towns. "Callers will do without lunch as an act of dedication and every householder will be invited to make a sacrificial gift to the Freedom From Hunger Campaign." Professor Underwood said the theme of the united church drive would be: "We March to End World Hunger In Our Lifetime." He said the church effort was launched by a letter to priests and ministers throuhout the State signed by Church leaders. The letter included these statements: "The Freedom From Hunger Campaign is a significant sign that the nations of the world are gradually accepting Our Lord's standards of compassion. "The ultimate solution to the problem can only come through substantial grants f rom national governments, arid we of the churches can do much to prepare our People to accept this fact, SO that the Commonwealth and State Governments may feel confident enough to Initiate the necessary measures. "In the meantime, gen-

The congregation, a key body of the Roman Curia, has jurisdiction over questions dealing with faith and morals. It also watches over publications and the reading of books contrary to Faith.
