A reliable source in the Vatican had stated that the Holy Father was subject to good and bad days with sedatives and blood transfusions required occasionally. The latest report from the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romuno revealed that a constant watch is being kept on the Holy Father. Throughout the world special prayers are being asked for and many who are not Catholics share the concern of the Church for His Holiness. His Grace the Archbishop has directed that in all Masses the "Oratio imperata" be added after the Collect, Secret and Post-Communion prayers. The prayer is to be taken from the Mass for the Pope. This prayer will remain in the Mass for the duration of the Holy Father's illness. His Grace has also requested that the faithful earnestly pray for the speedy recovery of His Holiness. A short traditional prayer or the Pope is: Let us pray for our Holy Father Pope John XXIII, may the Lord preserve him and give him life and make him blessed upon the earth and deliver him not to the will of his enemies.

Last Year's Mission Contributions Rome: World-wide contributions to Catholic mission work given through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in 1962 come to a total of £A1 1,292,300 — an increase of EA421,650 over the previous year. These figures were made public here by the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith in connection with the annual general meeting of national directors and members of the supreme councils of the pontifical mission aid societies. Fides, news agency of the congregation, said that despite the gain of close to half a million pounds in c ontributions, the Supreme Council of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith was able to grant only 765 out of 936 requests for special mission help. It said that even in the cases where aid was given, it averaged only 37.61 per cent of the amount requested. The collection of nearly £A11.3 million is a worldwide figure. It does not include aid given through missionary orders or individual missionaries. The latest available statistics for U.S. Protestant contributions to foreign mission work show a total contribution of £. A38.8 million given through 44 American Protestant bodies. Fides said that despite the fact that "much greater contributions are needed," the increase in 1962 giving enabled the Supreme Council of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith to "give extra help to very important activities." Among the mission activities aided, it said, was the Society of St. Peter Apostle for the Native Clergy. (Continued on Back Page)

COMBINED PRAYER AT NOLLAMARA

As a result of meeting constantly at the N ollamara State School for religious instruction, Ministers of various Churches suggested to Father R. Kelly, parish priest of Our Lady of Lourdes, Nollamara, that he show them the Catholic form of worship, the Moss, and that they pray for Christian Unity. Last Monday evening, four ministers with about a hundred of their congregations attended Mass at the parish church celebrated by Father Kelly. A commentary on the Mass was given by Father C. Stinson of Osborne Park. There were also about two hundred of Nollamara's parishioners at the iNiNss. The ministers at the Mass were Revs. S. Threlfall of Nollamara and Seston of Tuart Hill (Anglican), Rev. B. McKane of Yokine-Nollamara (Presbyterian) and Rev. B. Smith of Nollamara ( Congregational).

After the Mass, the guests were given supper and Revs. S. Threlfall and B. McKane thanked Father Kelly for giving them the opportunity to come to his church to pray for Christian Unity. They also expressed deep concern over the reports of the health of the Holy Father and assured that they and their congregations would be praying for him.
