Peter's Pence Acknowledged SECRETARIAT OF STATE OF THE HOLY SEE The Vatican, October 6, 1961. His Grace The Most Rev. Redmond Prendiville, D.D., Archbishop of Perth, St. Mary's Cathedral, Perth, W.A. My Lord Archbishop,

The Apostolic Delegation has duly forwarded for the Holy Father's acceptance the liberal contribution towards Peter's Pence for the year 1961, which Your Grace lovingly placed at His disposal in the name of the Archdiocese of Perth. Ever, since the horizon of His pastoral care has been extended to embrace the Universal Church, the paternal heart of His Holiness has gone out in prayerful affection to those of His children who live in distant lands, and of whose filial loyalty He has received repeated evidence. He would have Your Grace know that this donation of one thousand five hundred and seventy-five pounds, bearing witness to the devoted attachment of the Archdiocese of Perth, brought Him much consolation and comfort, and in His Masses He will ask Our Divine Lord to reward abundantly such sincere devotion to the visible Head of the Mystical Body. As an earnest of that celestial recompense, the Holy Father cordially bestows upon you, and upon the priests, religious and faithful entrusted to Your Grace's zealous care, His especial paternal Apostolic Benediction. With the assurance of my cordial esteem and high regard, I remain, Devotedly yours in Christ, (Signed) A. G. CARDINAL CICOGNANI.

last Friday

Fete in the Catholic

night, Mr. Peter Ferguson,

president of Perth Rotary, urged parents and mature people to assist in the expansion of the Y.C.W., which he described as

"a wonderful youth movement."

The fete was organised to raise funds for Y.C.W. work, especially the construction of a weekend camp at Pt. Peron and maintenance of Marian Lodge, where study weekends for leaders are being held currently. Mr. Ferguson, a nonCatholic, attended the fete with his wife and daughter and expressed warm interest in the work of the movement. "I count it a very great honour indeed," he said, "to have been asked to come along here tonight to say a few words and open this fete. "When I was first asked, I was a little reticent, but then I heard that the proceeds of the fete are to be devoted to Catholic work for youth. "I felt it would be a unique opportunity to tell the young people here tonight who are trainilig themselves for leadership how much I for one and many other people I know applaud and encourage their ambition and the wonderful work they are doing. "The world is always changing, but this last de-

cade or two in the scientific age has brought such swift change that many families are failing to cope with life, and we see many problems emerging such as the juvenile delinquency problem. It is despairing to think that once these young people go wrong, it is a soul -breaking job and almost impossible to get them right again. Prevention is a parent responsibility. "Life has convinced me that, as Christians, our lives should be dedicated to "loving God and loving our neighbour." Just as it is necessary to have food each day for physical development, so it is necessary to have food each day for spiritual development. "How lucky you young people are to be in a youth movement which encourages you to work hard and conyour towards tinuously spiritual development, and at the same time provides limitless opportunities for community service, which, of course, is an avenue of expressing your spiritual convictions. "The world is crying out (Continued on Page 16)
