sacrifices had been made by Australian Catholic parents in order that their children should receive a truly Christian education. It is the responsibility of those children, he continued, to justify these sacrifices by practising the fundamentals imparted to them at school in their everyday adult lives. After Mass, a tastefully was breakfast prepared served in the quadrangle of the school, which was gaily decorated with bunting in the school colours of blue and gold, with the Papal and national flags in prominence and the school pennant at the masthead. In proposing the toast to the school, Mr. J. Farrell cited examples of boys educated at the school who have become exemplary in various walks of life. In responding to the school toast and proposing a toast to the old boys, Rev. Brother H. D. Fogarty expressed disappointment in the lack of numbers taking an interest in the jubilee celebrations. He felt, however, that the spirit of those who have attended the meetings and functions held was of sterling character. During his response, Mr. G. Smith emphasised the importance of the memorial fund established to erect a fitting memorial to commemorate old boys who gave

freedom. In order that a worthy memorial could be erected, every old boy of the school should contribute to the fund. All who are prepared to subscribe are asked to get in touch with P. J. Marist Pupils Join Order In Victoria recently, the first Old Boys of St. Joseph's Marist Brothers' College, Subiaco, received the habit of the Order. On the feast of the Visitation three former students were received into the Marist Brothers Order: EVAN O'HALLORAN, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O'Halloran, Hensman-rd., Shenton Park, now known as Brother Cornelius; TERRY DWYER, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Dwyer of Connolly-st., Wembley, now known as Brother Clever; and THOMAS SCALLY, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. Scally of Simper-st., Wembley, now know as Brother Alfred. It was a happy occasion for the parents of the boys who journeyed to the East for the ceremony, held in Deepdene Church, Melbourne. The three novices will do their novitiate at Mount Macedon, Victoria, before proceeding to the four-year scholasticate at Dundas in Sydney. There are at present 16 former students of the College studying for the priesthood and the religious life. This is a particularly proud record for a school that was esstablished only seven and a half years ago and which built up to the Leaving certificate standard only three

"Respect The Aged" Castelgandolfo: His Holiness Pope John XXIII has counselled a large group of children at a general audience here "always to respect older people and to surround them with every kindness." The Pope told his young hearers that older people "have a real treasure of gifts and help which the Lord has given them along the long road of life and which will be very useful when the time comes for them to end their pilgrimage on this earth."
Pope John also urged youth to add this respect for the aged to a generosity in the service of God both in youth and in maturity. That would bring to each of today's young people a serene and confident old age, sustained by the best memories of good work accomplished, he said.
